Winona (Nonie) Steckley, age 94, of Keizer, OR, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 3, 2026. She was born May 2, 1932, in Jefferson, OR. Nonie was raised amid the hop fields of rural Independence, Buena Vista, and Silverton, the 9th of 10 children of Austin Calvin and Nona Hinkle Locke.
After graduating from Central High School, she worked as a telephone operator at Pacific Northwest Bell. She married Wayne Steckley in 1952, and they raised two children. In later years she worked at Sears Roebuck as a receptionist.
She enjoyed many hobbies including gardening and canning, making quilts, afghans, and needlepoint, reading, tole painting, taking photos, and working on jigsaw puzzles. Her other interests were bowling, tennis, cross country skiing and camping with family. She cherished spending time at the beach with her family and her dogs.
She leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue through her children, son Wayne (Robin) Steckley, daughter Teri (Jim) Webster, and five grandchildren, Toni (Chad) Bishop, Amy (Marshall) Morrison, Kim (Aren) Moffatt, Jordan (Alyson) Steckley, Cole (Victoria) Steckley, and eleven great-grandchildren.
Nonie will be remembered for her love of family and many talents, her appreciation for the simple pleasures of life and the countless memories she created with those she loved.
