Shirley Ann DeLapp passed away peacefully on February 9, 2026, in Tualatin, Oregon.
She was born on March 12, 1937 in Benkelman, Nebraska, to Edwin and Carrie (Stevens) Hillyer, the seventh of their children. The family later moved to Brooks, Oregon, where Shirley was raised and graduated from Gervais Union High School.
Shirley first married Frank Muth, and together they welcomed two children, Michael and Sherri. They later divorced. She later married John Laird, and they had three children: Debbie, Keri, and Wayne. They also later divorced.
In 1979, Shirley met Wesley DeLapp, the love of her life. They were married until his passing in 2013, and their years together were among her most cherished.
Shirley most enjoyed gardening, RVing with the Outsiders and Alpenlites groups, and spending time with her family. Her favorite color was red, and she especially loved Christmastime and the joy of receiving gifts. She treasured her father's 1937 Zenith radio and was quick to say, "No, no, no!" whenever family members ventured too close to it. Shirley was truly a spitfire - independent, strong, and determined. She was resourceful and made the very best of what she had. Organized and loving, she enjoyed working in positions that allowed her to interact with the public and was happiest socializing with members of her community.
Shirley is survived by her five children: Michael; Sherri; Debbie; Keri (Don); and Wayne (Traci); two stepchildren, Marilyn (Don) and Sally (Merle); 19 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren, with one more on the way; three sisters, Ileane, Betty, and Bonnie; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Wesley; and her siblings, Evelyn, Edwin Jr., Ted, Iris, and Vernie.
Services for Shirley will be held on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at Restlawn Funeral Home, 201 Oak Grove Rd. NW, Salem, Oregon 97304. A viewing will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 12:30 p.m. Interment will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Restlawn Memory Gardens.
Shirley will be remembered for her strength, her spirited nature, and the deep love she had for her family.
