Maria Magdalena Davis, born December 21, 1934, in Pfeffenhausen, Germany, passed away peacefully on April 10, 2025, in Salem, Oregon. She lived a remarkable life that spanned 90 years, filled with love, faith, and unwavering dedication to her family.
Maria was the beloved daughter of Ubald and Josefa Birkner. She was raised in a humble household and attended school until the 6th grade. Despite the challenges of her upbringing, she possessed a tenacious spirit that would define her life. In 1958, Maria married Alvis Davis in Munich, Germany, beginning a partnership that would last until his passing in 2015. Together, they formed a loving family, raising five children: sons Ron, Gary, and Glen, Roy and daughter Linda. Their home was a sanctuary of warmth, laughter, and above all, faith.
As a military wife for over 20 years, Maria supported her husband Alvis, a paratrooper in the U.S. Army, as they navigated the many challenges of military life. Her strength and resilience shone through during this time, qualities that she passed on to her children. Maria was known for being a straight shooter; she didn't pull any punches, and everyone knew exactly where they stood with her. Her children often recalled the phrase, "Just wait until your father gets home," which was a clear indicator of her no-nonsense approach to parenting.
Maria embraced her community with open arms, attending St. Edwards Church for over 50 years. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she was deeply committed to practicing her beliefs and raising her children in a loving, faith-filled environment. Her involvement in the church was a testament to her dedication and the values she cherished.
Throughout her life, Maria held various jobs, from soldering circuit boards to working in a doughnut shop and serving as a cook at the Keizer Cafe and the Deaf School. These experiences contributed to her strong work ethic and her ability to adapt to different challenges that life presented.
Maria is survived by her three sons, Ron (Lori), Gary (Debbie), Glen, and her daughter, Linda (Jeff), along with eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Alvis and her son Roy, who she cherished deeply.
Her memorial service will be held at the Restlawn Funeral Home on April 16th, 2025 at 12pm, where friends and family will come together to celebrate a life well-lived.
Maria Magdalena Davis leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and faith. She will be dearly missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. May she rest in peace, enveloped in the love she so generously shared during her lifetime.
