Leona Belle Ward (Wallace)

Marcy 25, 1926 - March 14 2014

Leona Belle (Wallace) Ward was born nearly 88 years ago in Salem, Oregon - she loved the beauty of Salem, and of the Oregon Coast so much that she chose to spend her entire life here. At a USO dance In 1945, she met a handsome marine from North Carolina, Martin Wade Ward. Leona and Martin shared 52 years of happy marriage and raised three children in South Salem.

Leona lived at Lancaster Village assisted living facility for the last 7 plus years. During her employment with the State of Oregon, Leona worked for the Highway and Division of Continuing Education departments. She and Martin were faithful members of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, where Leona loved to sing hymns. Leona delighted in travel and was an active member and leader of several civic organizations.

On the evening of March 14, 2014, surrounded by her loving family, Leona went home to be with the Lord. She joins her husband, Martin, who passed away in July of 1997. Her legacy includes her children and their spouses, Lois & Paul Wheeler of Salem, Bill & Nancy Ward of Salem, Mary & Mike Davis of Lanesborough, Massachusetts, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Leona's faith assures us that she is in the presence of her Lord and Savior, reunited with her beloved Martin, dancing together for all of eternity.

There will be visitation on Wednesday Evening from 6 to 8 p.m. A Funeral Service and Celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 20 at Restlawn Memory Garden in West Salem. If you are moved to honor her memory the family suggests donations to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation or the charity of your choice. The family hopes you will join us in a gathering of food and fellowship following the service directions will be available at the Mortuary.
