Joel Steven Pawloski

October 24, 1965 — July 12, 2025

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Joel Steven Pawloski, who left this world on July 12, 2025, at the age of 59. Joel was born on October 24, 1965, in Pontiac, Michigan, to Leo and Madeline Pawloski. A devoted husband, father, and friend, he spent his life dedicated to his family, faith, and service to his country.

Joel's journey through life began in Pontiac and eventually led him to Salem, Oregon, where he spent his final days. He was a proud graduate of Lake Orion High School, class of 1983. Following his graduation, Joel served in the Army for 19 years in Aviation, further dedicating an additional 12 years to simulations, culminating in his retirement in March 2012. His military service was marked by a steadfast commitment to his country, and he remained a patriotic citizen throughout his life.

In 2014, Joel met the love of his life, Susan, in Canby, Oregon. Their bond deepened, leading to their marriage on July 28, 2018. Together, they built a life filled with love and joy, eventually moving to Sublimity, Oregon, in 2020. Joel was a remarkable family man, survived by his beloved wife Susan, his children Brook Pawloski, Duncan Pawloski, and Matilda Miller, along with stepchildren Bethany Lodder, Melany Syler, Sydney Self, and Royal Ediger Jr. He leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion, including his mother, Madeline Pawloski.

In addition to his family, Joel was actively involved in his community. He served as the Chair of the Oregon Conservative Caucus for the Marion County Republicans from 2022 to 2024. His unwavering faith in Jesus Christ and his strong values were evident in every aspect of his life. He was a member of The River Church in Salem, where he found solace and strength in his faith.

Joel was known for his straightforward nature and was never one to sugarcoat his words. His generous spirit touched many lives, and his dedication to God, family, and country was an inspiration to all who knew him. A true craftsman at heart, he found joy in woodworking, gardening, hiking, and playing soccer. Joel loved the beauty of nature and often sought solace in the peacefulness of waterfalls.

His life was a testament to living with purpose; he often said, "I did everything God told me to." He ran his race with grace and determination, leaving behind a profound impact on his loved ones and community alike.

A funeral service to honor Joel's life will be held on July 26, 2025, at 12:00 PM at The River Church in Salem, Oregon. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Joel's memory may consider making a donation to The River Church, an organization that was close to his heart.

As we bid farewell to Joel Steven Pawloski, we remember a man who lived a life of service, love, and unwavering faith. He will be deeply missed but his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Rest in peace, dear Joel, you ran your race well.
