Javier Tolento, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, returned to his Heavenly Father on April 28, 2025, at the age of 75. Born on June 12, 1949, in Las Zarquillas, Michoacán, Mexico, Javier was the cherished son of Adolfo Tolento and Maria de Jesus Hernandez. He was preceded in death by his parents and his first-born child, Javier Tolento, as well as his great-grandson, Michael Angelo Todd.
Javier's journey took him from his humble beginnings in Mexico to the vibrant landscapes of the United States, where he arrived in the early 1970s. He initially came to work during a summer vacation and soon found his calling in the agricultural fields across Oregon and California. With determination and hard work, he transitioned to reforestation efforts, ultimately realizing his dream of owning his own business in Agriculture Management. Javier was not only respected in his profession but was also known for his kindness and ability to forge lasting friendships through his work. His dedication to his job was unparalleled, and he often joked that retirement was far from his thoughts.
Educated in Mexico, Javier attended boarding school before pursuing a degree in Engineering for two years. His commitment to education reflected his belief in the power of knowledge and hard work. Throughout his life, he remained a pillar of support for his family and community. An avid believer in faith, he was a dedicated member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Salem, Oregon, where he found solace and strength in his spirituality.
Javier was married to his beloved wife, Martha Ochoa, on December 8, 1973. Their love story spanned over 52 years, marked by unwavering devotion and deep affection. He often expressed that he loved her with his whole heart. Together, they built a life filled with joy, laughter, and a family that became the center of their world.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Tolento; daughters, Erika Tolento, Mayra Tolento, Isabel Bockelman (Eric Bockelman), and Adriana Gundran White (Charles Gundran White); and son, Eric Tolento (Azhalia Tolento). In addition, he leaves behind a legacy of love through his grandchildren: Emilio Todd, Julian Rivera, Noah Todd, Diego Tolento, Nathan Todd, Madelyn Bockelman, Aaliyah Sanchez, Arabella Gundran White, Carmelo Gundran White, Oliver Bockelman, Amaya Tolento, Javier Thomas, and Ezra Tolento, each of whom he cherished deeply.
Javier's interests and hobbies showcased his zest for life. He loved weekend getaways at the beach with Martha, enjoyed solving Sudoku puzzles, and spent countless hours watching sports-be it basketball, boxing, soccer, or golf. He was particularly fond of playing golf and was a dedicated supporter of his grandchildren's sporting endeavors. His passion extended to his garden, where he found joy in tending to his plants and creating beauty in his yard.
Known for his good sense of humor, Javier had a unique ability to bring laughter to those around him, often when they least expected it. He was kind, giving, and always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. His compassion was evident in every aspect of his life, as he believed in giving back to his community and helping others.
A visitation will be held at Restlawn Funeral Home in Salem, Oregon on May 5th at 3pm as well as a funeral mass on May 6th at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Salem, Oregon at 10:30am with a graveside service to follow at 2pm at Restlawn Memory Gardens. His family invites friends, community members, and loved ones to join them in celebrating the incredible life of a man who touched so many hearts.
Javier Tolento will be remembered not only for his contributions to his family and community but also for the love and laughter he brought into the lives of those fortunate enough to know him. His spirit will continue to inspire those he leaves behind, reminding us all of the importance of kindness, love, and faith. Rest in peace, dear Javier-your legacy lives on in the hearts of your family and friends.
