James Edgar Patterson

It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of James Edgar Patterson, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. James passed away peacefully on June 20, 2026, at the age of 92, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born on July 16, 1933, in Meeker, Oklahoma, James was the cherished son of Clyman and Macel Patterson. Following his parents' divorce, he and his late sister June were lovingly raised by his mother, his stepfather, Delbert Hill. Later, his father Clyman remarried, and James was blessed with additional siblings: Kent, Patti, Kathi, and Mari Jo. Together, they formed a close-knit family, and the love they shared and the memories they created remained a lasting source of strength and joy throughout his life.

In 1955, James married the love of his life, Jeanette Hindman, in a heartfelt ceremony in Outlook, Washington. Their marriage was a testament to enduring love and partnership, spanning an incredible 71 years. Together, they nurtured a beautiful family, raising their children, Kathy (Darrell), Traci (Andrew), Tim (Kathleen), and Ken (Alisha), with unwavering devotion. James found immeasurable joy in his role as a grandfather to Jennifer, Adam, Tamara, Tiffany, Katie, Jeannie, Sarah, Adam, Sam, Serenity, KC, JD, and Kaitlyn, and as a great-grandfather to 17 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. His family was the center of his world, and he cherished every moment spent in their company.

James proudly served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps during the Korean conflict. His service was marked by bravery and dedication, traits that he carried with him throughout his life.

In 1959, James and Jeanette relocated their family to California, where he discovered his passion and talent for operating a backhoe. Known for his remarkable skill and precision, James was highly sought after by numerous companies. In 1978, he and Jeanette embarked on an entrepreneurial journey, founding Patterson Backhoe, Inc. Together, they built a successful business where James worked with pride and determination until his retirement.

A man of deep faith, James was a devoted Christian, finding solace and inspiration in his beliefs. His love for the outdoors was boundless, and he could often be found fishing, hunting, camping, or horseback riding. Blessed with a green thumb, he nurtured a flourishing garden, coaxing life from the soil with patience and care. His uncanny ability to build or repair anything in need of fixing was legendary among family and friends.

James will be remembered for his kind and caring nature, his unwavering dedication to family, and his zest for life. He was most content when surrounded by those he loved, sharing laughter, stories, and the simple pleasures of life. He leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and warmth that will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.

A celebration of life will be held at Dayspring Fellowship 1755 Lockhaven Dr NE Keizer, Oregon on July 16, 2026 at 1pm.

As we gather to celebrate James's incredible life, we find comfort in knowing that his spirit lives on in the hearts and memories of those who loved him. His was indeed a life well-lived, full of love, adventure, and joy.
