With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Grover Edward Arthur Wilson Jr., a beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who departed this world on August 28, 2025, at the age of 78, in his hometown of Salem, Oregon.
Born on October 4, 1946, Grover was the cherished son of Grover Edward Wilson Sr. and Pearl Trumbly. He grew up in Salem, where he developed a deep love for his community and the great outdoors. Grover pursued his education at Chemeketa Community College, equipping himself with knowledge that he would carry throughout his life.
Grover proudly served in the Oregon Army National Guard from February 1965 to February 1985, exemplifying the dedication and commitment that defined his character. After his military service, he joined the Marion County Sheriff's Office, where he worked from July 10, 1984, until November 29, 2002. His career in law enforcement was marked by a steadfast commitment to serving and protecting his community.
Grover married the love of his life, Dorothy Ann Wilson, on July 16, 1977. Their marriage was a true partnership filled with love, laughter, and companionship until her passing on December 2, 2017. Grover cherished the memories they created together, and he carried her spirit with him always.
As a father, Grover was deeply devoted to his children. He is survived by his son, Troy Wilson, and his daughter, Torri Ford. He was a proud grandfather to Jordan and Lillian Wilson, Ash and Alisa Earls, and a great-grandfather to August Earls and Madysin Earls. Known affectionately as "Grumpy Grandpa Grover," he was adored by all his grandchildren, who found joy in his warmth, humor, and love.
To his family and friends, Grover will always be remembered as a man who loved to spend time in the great outdoors, enjoying camping, hunting, and fishing. He found happiness in the simple pleasures of life, often seen sitting in his driveway, soaking up the sun and providing his own version of neighborhood watch to the lovely ladies who also looked out for him.
Grover was a retired member of the Oregon Army National Guard and a retired deputy of Marion County, earning the respect and admiration of those who served alongside him. He touched the lives of many in his community, and his legacy of dedication, kindness, and love will continue on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Grover was preceded in death by his parents, Grover Edward Wilson Sr. (1984) and Pearl Trumbly (2009), as well as his beloved wife, Dorothy Ann Wilson (2017).
His life will be honored at Restlawn Memory Gardens on September 10, 2025, at 11:00 AM, where friends and family are invited to gather and share their memories of a man who was a pillar of love and strength.
A celebration of Grover's life will take place immediately after the burial at his residence located at 4562 Johnisee Ct NE, Salem, Oregon 97305.
In this time of grief, let us remember Grover Edward Arthur Wilson Jr. for the joy he brought into our lives, his unwavering spirit, and the love he shared so abundantly with his family and friends. His legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched, and he will be dearly missed.
