Grace Faber, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2025, in Salem, Oregon, at the age of 93. Born on December 2, 1931, in Artesia, California, Grace lived a life filled with love, faith, and dedication to her family and community.
She was the cherished daughter of Jelle and Elizabeth VanderMeer, who instilled in her the values of faith and service that would guide her throughout her life. Grace graduated from Excelsior High School, where her love for music blossomed. She began playing the violin at the tender age of four and later became known for her beautiful singing voice, earning numerous awards for her musical talents. Music was not just a hobby for Grace; it was a form of expression that brought joy to her and those around her.
On June 13, 1949, Grace married her childhood sweetheart, Henry Faber, in Bellflower, California. Together, they built a life filled with love and support, raising three wonderful children: daughters Peggy Lawson and Susan (Denis) Kline, and son Scott (Nancy) Faber. Grace's devotion to her family was unwavering; she dedicated her life to caring for her husband and children, selflessly ensuring their well-being, often found feeding the calves on their family farm.
Grace was a woman of deep faith and was actively involved in her church communities. She was a member of the Sunnyslope Christian Reformed Church in Salem, Oregon, and previously attended Church on the Hill in Norco, California. Her faith guided her actions and relationships, and she was often heard saying, "God loves you and so do I." a testament to her loving spirit and commitment to spreading kindness.
Grace's legacy lives on through her children, her ten grandchildren, and her ten great-grandchildren, who all carry forward the lessons of love, faith, and devotion she imparted. She touched the lives of many with her warmth, compassion, and unwavering faith in God.
A service celebrating Grace's extraordinary life will be held on August 9, 2025, at 10:00 AM at the Sunnyslope Christian Reformed Church in Salem, Oregon. Friends and family are invited to gather and share memories of Grace, a remarkable woman who devoted her life to her family and faith.
Grace's life was a beautiful melody composed of love, faith, and community service. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her, but her spirit will continue to inspire us to live with love and devotion.
