Autumn Vey Cermak

Autumn Cermak, age 93, of Salem, Oregon, passed away peacefully of natural causes on May 27, 2026, at Salem Hospital.

Autumn was born on September 15, 1932, in the Corvallis, Oregon hospital, to Roy Olsen and Beatrice Olsen (Larsen). She was raised on a rural homestead in the woods of Tidewater, Oregon with two sisters where she gained a deep appreciation for nature and animals. She graduated from Alsea High School and went on to work as an office secretary for the state of Oregon in Salem.

It was through a local square-dancing group that she met Alfred Cermak, where they enjoyed dancing together in competitions. They were married on September 15, 1968, at the charming Silver Bells Chapel of Reno, Nevada, as witnessed by her sister and spouse, Yola and Peter Bodtker. She then dedicated herself to her family as a homemaker and soon had a son.

Autumn and Alfred built a life of simplicity on their small farm in Salem, raising their son, Aaron Cermak. Autumn found joy in life's simple pleasures, whether sewing and mending clothes or tending to her gardens, which were filled with fruits, vegetables, and blossoms. They enjoyed traveling the western states in their pickup with a camper and took their small child with them everywhere they went in including the coast, national parks, touristy cities. They often took trips to stay at the old homestead in the woods where she grew up.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 45 years, Alfred Cermak and two sisters.

Autumn is survived by her son, Aaron Cermak, as well as her cherished cats, Millie, Red, and Bella, who brought her much companionship and happiness throughout her later life.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Regency Woodland assisted living for their compassionate care during Autumn's final months. A graveside service will be held on Friday, June 26, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Restlawn Funeral Home and Memory Gardens in Salem, Oregon.

Autumn's family extends their gratitude to all who have offered their support, prayers, and kindness during this difficult time. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
