Altaye Shewaye Atlabachew was born on March 14, 1951 to the late Priest Shewaye Atlabachew Gebre Selassie and Wozero Aberash Eshebelachew in Dembi Dolo, Wolega, Ethiopia.
She moved to Addis Ababa to pursue her studies and attended the Red Cross Nursing school at Halie Selassie Hospital. She first worked at Paulos Hospital, Medical Nursing. Here is where she met her late husband, Shewarega Berhanu. They were married surrounded by their loving family and friends in Addis Ababa. She spent majority of her career at Tikur Ambessa hospital, Pediatrics, and finally at the British Embassy Clinic.
She relocated to the United States permanently in 2002 and finally lived in Salem Oregon for the last 21yrs of her life. She worked at the Salem State Hospital from where she retired in 2018.
She accepted, Jesus Christ as her savior and was baptized at Gospel Light Church. She was a woman of deep faith and unwavering love, always ready to offer comfort, guidance, and support to those around her.
Altaye's legacy is one of kindness, resilience, and devotion to her family and community. She is survived by her three children Fitsum, Alem and Samuel, their spouses & her cherished grandchildren Zachary, Zena, and Sawyer; Her sisters Shetaye, Membere, Asrat, Tenagne, Elsabeth, Menna and her brothers Esayas and Mekonen; her loving nieces, nephews, family members and friends who will miss her deeply and continue to honor her memory.
