    Matthew G. Fahey

    February 23, 1959 - May 16, 2022

Dr. Matthew Fahey was born in Portland, Oregon and grew up in Eugene, Oregon. He was 63 at the time of his death. He died peacefully at his home in Salem, Oregon on May 16, 2022 from a brain tumor he was diagnosed with in April 2021.. He is survived by his wife, Barbara; his daughter, Stephanie; his stepchildren Cody Ries (Alysia) and Abigail Davidson (Mike) and granddaughter Murphy. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert and mother, Helen "Pat" Fahey. Matthew graduated from Oregon State University with a degree in Biology and then from Oregon Health Science University with his Doctor of Medicine degree. He completed his residency in Oklahoma, but vowed he was not a cowboy. He was convinced that building a house and moving to the country was okay but did not make him anything country. We laughed as he learned to identify the appropriate sounds of farm animals and the smell of skunks that he was eager to point out was thiosulfate. He enjoyed a career in Emergency Medicine for 34 years. He was also an entrepreneur and co-founded a maritime medicine and travel medicine business and later a medical consulting business with his wife. He loved investing and the stock market and stayed active in trading until his death. He was an avid tennis player, skier and golfer. He loved spending time in Sunriver and being with friends and family. He was generous to a fault and loved teaching others anything from investing to medicine. He had a warm smile and great wit. His colleagues and peers in the Emergency Department gave him some of his best stories and greatest memories and he enjoyed being their teammate above all. He considered each one of them an integral and valuable member of the team and why a special thank you is sent to each of them for everything they did in this last part of his journey. Thank you Holly for everything to make the very last moments peaceful and filled with love, I will be forever grateful." To the end he said he had a good life, with few regrets. He never took one day for granted and no matter what, was always a person you could count on. He hated rules and did his best to live outside of them, he was unique in many ways. At his request, there will be no funeral service.
