    Larry D. Hardin

    May 12, 1934 - September 28, 2021

Larry Dean Hardin passed away on September 28, 2021 from heart failure and dementia. He was born in Maywood CA on May 12, 1934 - the second of six children (and only son) of Emma Prather Hardin and Herschel Hardin. He grew up in Decatur IL and graduated from Lakeview HS in 1952. Larry and his sister Shirley moved together to Los Angeles to attend L.I.F.E. Bible College from which he graduated with a Bachelor of Theology in 1956. Larry worked for two years in many capacities at various Foursquare churches and then was drafted into the U. S. Army. He served from 1958-1960. Shortly after he was discharged he came to Oregon to assist the pastor of the Canby Foursquare Church and to work at Camp Crestview in the Columbia Gorge. He decided to continue his education at Cascade College in Portland OR. While attending Cascade he met the love of his life, Lynne Winnington. They married in 1962 and welcomed their daughter, Julie, in 1964. Larry and Lynne celebrated their 59th anniversary on August 18th, 2021. Larry loved to learn and went on to receive a Bachelor of Teaching Science from Cascade College, a Master of Teaching Science from Idaho State University, and an Ed. D. in Science Education from the University of Northern Colorado. Larry taught Physics and Chemistry at the high school level and finished his career working for the State of Oregon at Hillcrest School. He retired in 1996 but continued his calling by substituting for the Salem-Keizer school district for several years. After Lynne retired in 1998 they started traveling. They had many wonderful memories of traveling with groups, taking cruises, and sometimes just hopping in the car and exploring our beautiful country. Larry loved the Lord and served him faithfully. He was a wonderful husband, father, and friend and is greatly missed. He is survived by his wife, Lynne Winnington Hardin; his daughter, Julie Lynne Hardin; and his sisters Shirley Jones, Carol White, Patsy Butler, Marti Williams, and Fran Addison. A celebration of life will be held at Gateway Foursquare Church; Salem, OR on Friday, November 19th at 2 p.m. Lynne and Julie would like to thank the staff of Capital Manor and Willamette Valley Hospice for their loving care of Larry as he made his journey to join Nana and Papa in heaven. Arrangements by Restlawn Funeral Service.
