Ida "Clarice" Shrewsbury went home to be with the Lord May 25, 2009 at the age of 93. Clarice was born in Hollis, Okla., one of four children, of Wesley J. and Maude Mae Smith. The family moved to Colorado and then to Phoenix, Ariz. Clarice graduated from Phoenix High School in 1932 and married Aaron Lightfoot that same year in Phoenix. She had two chldren from that marriage, Wesley Arthur and Carrol Lynne. In 1940, Clarice married Eric M. "Jack" Shrewsbury in Los Angeles, Calif. When Jack was drafted she moved back to Phoenix where Eric M. "Poke" Shrewsbury Jr. was born in 1942. The family moved to Scotts Mills, Oregon in 1946 where Clarice worked as a homemaker and Jack worked in a saw mill. In 1952, they moved to Salem and Clarice worked as a manager at Lipman's Tea Room until 1954 when she and Jack acquired The Cupboard Cafe on the corner of State and High streets. Throughout her many years of life Clarice enjoyed the ocean, fishing, camping, traveling and attending family functions. She loved the Lord and was a charter member of Dayspring Fellowship Church in Keizer. Clarice was preceded in death by her husband, Jack (1995); brother, Bernice (1920); sisters, Mildred Weaver (1981) and LaVern Earl (1988). She is survived by her three children, Wesley Lightfoot of Aloha, Lynne Ullman of Salem and Eric "Poke" Shrewsbury of Keizer; her foster sister, Virginia Ray of Phoenix; 15 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Viewing will be from 12 to 8 p.m. on Friday, May 29 at Restlawn Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 30 at Restlawn Funeral Home in Salem. The service is open to family and friends with a small graveside service immediately following. In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be sent to the Dayspring Building Fund.
