    Douglas R. Hadley

    June 17, 1939 - June 9, 2022

Douglas Rupert Hadley was born June 17, 1939 in Salem, Oregon. He passed away at Salem Hospital June 9, 2022 following a short illness. The son of Gordon and Catherine Hadley, he attended local schools and graduated from Central High School in Independence in 1957. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Food Technology from Oregon State University in 1961 and was a member of the SAE Fraternity. Doug spent two years in the Army after graduation and was stationed at the Armed Forces Food and Container Institute in Chicago where they developed freeze-dried foods for NASA. It was also there that he met Nancy Baker and they were married in October of 1963. Doug worked over 20 years on the family farm south of Independence – raising cherries, prunes, pears and peppermint. He also spent 22 years in the grass seed industry, retiring from Pennington Seed in 2004. He is survived by his wife of nearly 59 years, Nancy, Sons Mark Allen Hadley (Diane) and Robert George Hadley, two granddaughters, Jessica Rose and Emma Lucille, and a brother, Edgar. Doug was a wonderful father and grandfather as well as a faithful and trusted friend to all who knew him well. Suggestions for memorials are Northwest Hub, Our Saviors Lutheran Church, or your charity of choice. A celebration of life service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, June 24th at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, 1770 Baxter Rd. SE, Salem.
